The church

We are a church plant of Christian City Church Tuggeranong (A.C.T) with the amazing pastors Steve and Jill Janes, we are a growing church in Broken Hill and have a young, energetic flavour to our services. Our church was started in a house meeting in Nov ’02, it was originally called Oasis City Church (and still is most times now, we are an oasis in the desert). In July 2003 we moved in to our first building and haven’t looked back. We are a family church with a desire to positively impact our community.

We are a member of Christian City Church International and closely associated with CCC Oxford Falls

“What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God—the gateway to heaven!” Genesis 28v17 NLT

“We started the church with a heart to see people realize their full potential in God, life and their relationships. We have three awesome kids – Samuel, Jasmine and Lachlan, an over excited staffy called Max and made the Hill our home after moving from the eastern suburbs of Sydney.”

Michele sometimes misses the waves of Bondi beach (she grew up on the surf) and Jamie wishes for a Thai restaurant but they are excited to be back in the bush raising thier family and building God’s house.

Our lives have been so impacted by Jesus we desire to see the amazing power of transformation that can build great families, homes and communities. Our motto is “setting people up for life”, we know everyone has unique qualities and gifts and our efforts are to help you reach your fullest potential. We value people and love life and desire to see the effect of a Jesus kind of life in everyone we meet and know.

What tha?

When asked why did we start a church in Broken Hill, the middle of the desert, the middle of everywhere, we realized it we didn’t have a simple answer. We came here to see people reach their full potential in Christ. Our hearts are to ‘keep it real’ we know that Jesus is real and we see a church full of people on top of life, living life to win, we hate fake and holier than thou attitudes and know that if God can transform us He can do it with anyone.

We stand for justice and hate gossip, we love and care for the wellbeing of people, we believe in the supernatural and have seen, been a part of people getting up out of wheel chairs, we know God heals. We want our kids, family, friends and everyone we know to be successful in life, what ever that means to them!

Hope. Hope is something felt, without it life sucks, we have a message of hope – for your kids, your marriage, your job, house, future – its all good. Well we think it can be. And we’ve been through life’s valleys as well as the mountain tops so we aren’t talking something we haven’t walked, keeping it real!

People are important, life is meant to be lived. We found Jesus and he is the coolest thing in our world. We play hard, live with purpose and want to join with like minded people on the journey of our earthly existence and fulfill a life with meaning. We want to share it. HIM.

People matter to God therefore they matter to us. We believe in the bible, we live it, sometimes miss it, but don’t expect perfection - only in HIM. We have high hopes, big prayers, very noisy prayers, really quiet ones we aren’t timid and expect answers. He does answer you know!

We love life, sport, up not down. Footy, Thai food, Italian and Spanish for that matter, the water (on our holidays now), bungy jumping, adventure, chocolate, red wine and candles, BBQ’s, sharing stuff, spending time with friends and family – what really matters - you know!

What theWe laugh a lot, but take life seriously enough not to be too serious, we face issues of concern, talk about money, sex, success, failure (been there and it hurts), bouncing back, commitment, love, giving, marriage and any issue that real people face – we understand paradox.
We believe in faith, hope and love, a bright, colorful, positive and encouraging church atmosphere - a church that the unchurched are attracted to, filled with music, light, supernatural happenings, vision, purpose, loving people, and great preaching. We are irreverent, risky, fun, conservative, serious and holy. We are human. We have contradictions. We celebrate humanity. We are Christians. We believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (even though we have no real idea how the Trinity works).
We love People. We love each other. We really love God, and He loves us.
Look forward in catching up soon…

Statement of faith

We believe:
• There is one God: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit;
• In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God; we believe in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, His constant intercession and in His imminent return;
• In the person and work of the Holy Spirit with His fruit and gifts available in the Church;
• The Bible is the word of God - authoritative and everlasting, and the foundation of all Christian doctrine;
• In the existence of an evil spiritual being-the devil;
• In the spiritually lost condition of all people and the essential need for the “new birth” by faith in Jesus Christ;
• In the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a gift available to believers, with the normal evidence of speaking in other tongues;
• In the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and baptism by full immersion in water for all believers;
• In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting separation from God;
• In the church being the body of Christ, and each member being an active part of a local church, fulfilling the Great Commission

Culture

what defines a church? Why are there so many different types and styles of Christian churches?

We believe because God is so diverse and creative no ‘one’ local church has all the answers, while there are many denominations we all desire basically the same end. Jesus preached. What defines each local church (the champions of the cause) is the vision of the Pastors and their team - but what makes a church what it is, is its culture. Each church has a specific DNA, a feel, a style. It is that very uniqueness that gives a church its own special place in the big picture of God’s kingdom.

We are very specific and intent on our culture – it is what defines our church.

It is FUN, BRIGHT, RELEVANT & POWERFUL
